After the first two successful presentations of the festival in March and September 2022, still under the working name Žilina Žije svetlom, a new festival ŽIŽA – Žilina Festival of Light is being created under the auspices of OOCR Malá Fatra and the city of Žilina. During two evenings in September, visitors will have the opportunity to see and experience light installations and other works by artists from various corners of Slovakia and abroad. The festival will take the audience around various corners of Žilina and open the doors of several Žilina buildings.
This year, using its traditional medium – light installations in the public space of the city of Žilina – the festival tries to communicate burning topics of the present time such as alienation, freedom, the desire for meeting, sensitivity and closeness, for understanding, deepening and sharing one’s own perspective. The goal of this year is to point out, through art, the multitude of meanings behind these themes, the multitude of paths on which we cross each other. This crossing should be a moment of mutual rapprochement based on an effort to understand – to open up to each other’s story and to realize that the perspective of each of us is a unique „here and now“, which together create one reality – the one we all live together.
